outreach.jpg (15362 bytes) The South Asia Outreach Educational Project serves as a liaison between the University of Chicago, community organizations and the public to foster knowledge of South Asia and South Asian studies. We maintain contact with educators and scholars nationally and internationally and work with teachers at all levels to provide educational resources. In addition to a newsletter, Outreach holds a teacher's workshop every spring, sponsors various cultural events, lends books and documentary and feature videos and hosts seminars and talks on a wide range of topics pertaining to South Asia.

Many of our programs and activities focus on developing better educational material and resources for teachers in the Chicago area. The Outreach office offers for loan a large range of educational materials, including books on a wide variety of topics, slide sets, curriculum units, and "hands on" teaching kits. Our staff is composed of specialists in South Asia who are available to answer questions and to help teachers and other interested individuals locate resources outside our office. We are constantly working to acquire new quality resources and update our existing materials. For anybody interested in finding out more about the region, publicizing South Asia-related events within the University and the community, or gaining access to the University's excellent resources and expertise, South Asia Outreach is an invaluable point of contact.
