Jami Conference

The A Worldwide Literature: Jāmī (1414-1492) in the Dār al-Islām and Beyond is a project supported by the Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society.

This second conference of the larger project will gather the scholars who contributed to the symposium in Chicago (October 2012) as well as new participants. The conference will be held at the Chicago Center in Paris and the College de France.

A public two-day conference focusing on the works of 'Abd al-Rahman Jami'

"A Worldwide Literature: Jami (1414-1492) in the Dar al-Islam and Beyond" is an attempt to gather in one place a wide array of specialists of various languages (Persian, Arabic, Turkish (Ottoman and Chaghatay), Sanskrit, Pashto, Urdu, Bengali, Chinese, Malay, and Georgian) dealing with the reception of the works of 'Abd al-Rahman Jami. The project will be presented as a symposium at the University of Chicago, and aims to study the impact of Timurid literature on intellectual history at a global level, introduce material available in each tradition, and define guidelines for a common analysis of this complex subject.
